I read this on Jim’s page, and I agree with it 100%. I am also a parent, a cyclist, and a professional, I have to balance what I do bicycle wise with what I do every where else, and I fall victim (pretty regularly) to the lust for the other man’s (or woman’s) bike. Its hard to keep a clear head with that stuff, the industry is great at convincing you that the next thing is the greatest thing, and then there’s the less tangible pressures, like the nice guy that runs the bike shop. You want to support them, you want them there when you need new bar tape, or some advice on a weird bolt, in order to assure that, you have to buy their products, and there’s the pressure again…especially when they have a great demo or rental program…
